It’s Sunday Again!!!

Well, it’s Sunday again….funny how it rolls around ever week or so. North Germany is still being punished by snow with no let-up in slight…..We have more snow that Vancouver….I’d ship them some but the cost would be outrageous.

My wife, Gisela, who at the moment is only left-handed due to an infected middle finger and all bandaged up (and I thought she was just being rude), has allowed (do you feel the sarcasm?) me to take over the kitchen, with supervision, of course.

Tet 2010 Year Of The Tiger


As we enter the Year of the Tiger we leave the Year of the Buffalo (Ox) which signified a lot of hard work for everyone in the past year. Does the word *recession* come to mind?!

Well then, what does the Year of the Tiger mean for us?

For one thing, the fact that Valentine’s Day and Tet are falling on the same day (which has only happened three times since 1900) we have two times as much to celebrate!

Hearts and chocolate? Or, dumplings and noodles to celebrate Tet instead of going out or staying in with someone special?

So have some noodles but don’t let the first strand break before it is all the way in your mouth. Cutting (or breaking) the noodle is bad luck because long noodles symbolize longevity.

Happy Valentine's Day 2010

Today is a very special day as it is Valentine’s Day and also the Lunar New Year Day (Tet the year of the Tiger) 2010. Certainly, not something that occurs often.

So as we celebrate this day of – Love – around the world people will be saying,

In Vietnamese: Chuc mung ngay Le Tinh yeu (or, Chuc mung ngay Le Valentine)

In Portuguese: Felize Dia dos Namoradoes

In French: Joyeuse Saint-Valentin
