Blog Tips: Comments

Mimi asked this question:

Is there a way to know when a new “Comment” is added to a Post, even in an Archived Post?

Good question, Mimi. I’m going to answer it here, as I think it will be of interest to others on our Blog.

The answer is: Yes — If you are a “Registered” member of our Blog.

(If you are not a Registered member, you can register by scrolling down the Menu on the right over there —-> until you get to LOGIN. Then click on “Register”.)

Here is what you do to view new Comments.

1. Login (with your User Name and Password).

2. You will now be on the “Dashboard” page.

3. Scroll down to the section titled “Recent Comments” on the left side of the page.

In “Recent Comments” you will see the five (5) most recent comments listed, newest one first, with links to the Posts they pertain too. Click the links and you’ll be taken to the Post with it’s Comments.

OR

If you look at the top right corner of the “Recent Comments” section box, you’ll see a link that says, “See All” … clicking it will take you to a page listing ALL Comments made on the Blog to date. The newest Comment is listed first at the top. Here you can scan and read all the Comments people have made to all the different Posts.

At the end of each Comment you’ll see a line that tells you the “Title” of the Post the Comment was made on.

Example: From: Deja Vu: Vietnam Part 6 (Saigon Central City) 2008 7/19 at 3:14 pm

This tells you the Comment was left on the Post titled – Deja Vu: Vietnam Part 6 (Saigon Central City) at 3:14 pm on July 19th.

So now lets say you’ve scanned through the Comments and read all the Comments about Deja Vu: Vietnam Part 6 … and, now you want to add your Comment to this Posts. How do you get from the Comments page to the Deja Vu: Vietnam Part 6 “Post” page to add your Comment?

Here’s what you do:

Scroll up to the top of the Comments page. You’ll see the words “Saigon Kids American Community School”. After the word “School” you’ll see a “Button” (little box) with the words “View Site” in it. “Click It”

Now you’ll be on the Blog Home Page. Go to the Menu on the right side of the page and look for “Categories”. Under Categories scroll down to “Deja Vu: Vietnam” … Click It.

Now you’ll be on a page saying:

“Archive for the ‘Deja Vu: Vietnam’ Category”

This page will list all the Posts about Deja Vu: Vietnam. Find the Post ‘Titled’ – Deja Vu: Vietnam Part 6 (Saigon Central City) – Click on the title.

Now you will be on the page for the Post with all Comments (Responses) made about the Post. Scroll down to the bottom of the Comments until you get to “Leave A Reply”

Now type your Comment in the Box.

When you are finished typing your Comment … Click on the “Submit Comment” button.

Now you’ve finished making that Comment. But, say you now want to go back to the Comments page to read more Comments about different Posts. How do you get back there?

Here is what you do. Scroll on the Menu on the right side of the page until you get to “LOGIN” … now Click on “Site Admin”.

Gee, look you are now back to your Dashboard Page. Isn’t this where we started a few minutes ago? I believe it is 🙂

Now to read more Comments, you could just do what we did above all over again …

OR …

We could go through a different “Door” to the Comments page 🙂

Lets go through “Door #2” this time.

On your Dashboard Page directly above the word “Dashboard” you’ll see three words: “Write” “Manage” “Comments” … select and Click On “Comments” … now you are back to the Comments page listing all the Comments ever made on the Blog. Just follow the steps above to read more Comments and write more Comments to different Posts.

Ahhhhh … but I can hear you now … thinking … Okay, Bob this is all great, but how do I remember all this while I’m trying to do it the first few times until I get the hang of it ?

You didn’t know I could read mines from great distances, did you?! 🙂

Here is what you do.

“Minimize” this window by clicking the ” – ” button in the top right corner.

Now open a 2nd window and go to the Blog. You’ll be on the Blog Home Page. Go to the Menu on the right side of the page. Scroll down to “LOGIN” … then Click on “Site Admin” or “Log In” which ever link is showing. Now you’ll be on your “Dashboard Page” in the 2nd window you have open.

Now just hop back and forth reading the instructions in the 1st window as you go through the steps in the 2nd window. 🙂

OR … you could open a 2nd window by simply CLICKING HERE

Play with this a few times. It is very easy once you do it a couple times. It just looks complicated when you write it out like this, is all.

This Post will be Archived in Categories – Blog Tips should you need to refer to it again at a later date.

In a few days I’ll write another article explaining “Door #3” to the Posts and Comments section of your Dashboard pages.

As always, you are welcome to leave your comments below.

Bob
