Sunday In Germany: Another Waste of Your Time

By Ken Yeager

Sunday morning, February 21, 2010 – Grosshansdorf Germany

Most of you are still asleep as I write this Sunday morning missive and probably you’re got bored and thus sleepy from reading my previous input(s) if you took the time and nothing better to do. One nice thing about a blog is that you can glance at it and decided this isn’t worth my time..I, on the other hand, enjoy this, giving me the opportunity to exercise one of my few skills – the ability to type fast. During my initial years in the Foreign Service when I worked in communications, I could type 100 WPM plus. Of course, that isn’t the case anymore but I can still pound out the words…trouble is I can’t think fast enough and my fingers get ahead of my brain.

Sunday In Germany: Snow, Fingers, The Kitchen, Green Cabbage, Speck, Foreign Language, eBay and Fireboats

It’s Sunday Again!!!

Well, it’s Sunday again….funny how it rolls around ever week or so. North Germany is still being punished by snow with no let-up in slight…..We have more snow that Vancouver….I’d ship them some but the cost would be outrageous.

My wife, Gisela, who at the moment is only left-handed due to an infected middle finger and all bandaged up (and I thought she was just being rude), has allowed (do you feel the sarcasm?) me to take over the kitchen, with supervision, of course.

Sunday In Germany: Lessons from Saigon, Books, Newspapers, TV, Diets and Web Sites

By Ken Yeager

Well, it’s Sunday again, the snow finally stopped but it is cold and gray outside and I am warm inside with absolutely no intention of venturing outside to do anything.

So what shall we talk about today and why am I doing this? One reason for doing this, I suppose, is that Bob has sort of taken a writing holiday and when he is writing he usually goes off on an intellectual slant (for example, How Opium Led You To Becoming a Saigon Kid). I can’t compete with that so I just ramble with whatever comes to mind, or for today, I made a small list of things that I could ramble on about, so here goes. However, be advised this missive today is only for those with nothing better to do!!! Continue reading Sunday In Germany: Lessons from Saigon, Books, Newspapers, TV, Diets and Web Sites

Sunday In Germany: Winter Wonderland of Snow, Bird Feeders, Kidney Transplant Saves A Life, Lunch At the Cemetery, Eating Fish, Motor Cycle Fairs

Sunday In Germany

This missive is written only for those that have nothing better to do. You are warned!!!

It’s Sunday morning here in Großhansdorf (that ß is a double “S” in German) and I’ve just come in from cleaning the snow off the sidewalk leading to the house here. We have had the worst winter in 30 years according to the news reports with some areas really being hit hard. Großhansdorf got about 8 inches on Friday night/Saturday morning and that was work, I tell you. Last night was just a good dusting, enough to make the snow look clean again. My bird feeders are full but because I don’t want to track up the back yard (it looks like a winter wonderland) the feeders are really too close to the house. But that’s the bird’s problem, not mine. Sunday In Germany: Just a Ramble

Sunday In Germany

Good Morning Saigon Kids where ever you may be.

OK, it is Sunday morning, the dishes are done and I am sitting here typing this note/letter/epistle/tome/whatever. My wife tells me it is -11ºC ( 12.2ºF ) outside and I wish I was with Sarah Bush in Hawaii, enjoying I hope warmer weather. I am not a winter person. I hate raking leaves and acorns (prelude to winter), shoveling snow, driving on ice, and being cold. But what can I do? I promised my wife that when we retired from the Foreign Service, we would return to Germany and live there. Not being the sharpest tack in the box, I failed to consider winters and cold weather. And now I am stuck unless I consider divorce…nahhh, that’s out of the questions, so here I sit in my fluffy warm slippers, sweater and fleece jacket. Continue reading Sunday In Germany: Just a Ramble
