The 1950s were turbulent times with the seeds of rebellion and non-conformity planted by the *beats* (later termed Beatniks) fuel was added to the fires of rebellion with Rock’n Roll music (our music) in the mid-50s preparing the way for the coming era of the 1960s.
These were the days of our youth as we became the new heart beat of America destined to change the world forevermore … and, WE DID!

Hello Bob,
Thanks for posting this film. It’s one of the few videos about the beat generation that I haven’t seen. Coincidentally, just last week I saw an exhibition that was about “beatniks” and surf culture in California. One of the pieces in the show was the original sign from an Orange County coffee house called Prisoner of Socrates.

Richard – Thanks. I thought you might enjoy it. Have you seen *On The Road* and *Big Sur*? I’m looking around for more obscure films about the beat generation. When I find them I’ll post them.

Bob,
I’ve seen both of them. On the Road isn’t bad, but Big Sur is terrible. There’s also one about the beats in NYC and a murder that involved one of them. I forgot the name of the film but it stars the actor who played Harry Potter. There’s also a beat documentary entitled The Source as well as a number of films that Burroughs made with friends.
