by Cynthia Nguyen (ACS and PSG)
I would very much like to invite Saigon Kids, ACS and PSG alumni and 3FH’ers in the San Francisco Bay Area (and those from other areas) to this Lao dinner for Legacies of War, the non-profit I volunteer for that focuses on clearing the UXO left over 40 years ago in Laos.
Hope you can join us!
Please RSVP by emailing me.
We’re having authentic Lao cuisine and an interesting mix of people to raise money for a good cause.
I am on the board of Legacies of War (legaciesofwar.org).
We’re interested in raising awareness as much as raising funds.
So please come and help us celebrate our good news:
We heard in January that the fiscal year 2012 Omnibus Bill passed, was signed by Obama, and included $9M for funding UXO clearance in Laos!! This is literally more than TRIPLE the paltry amount (about 1.8m-2.3m/year) the US had been handing out for the last 20 years and when Legacies of War started doing advocacy work in 2009.
“Congratulations! Legacies of War — virtually single handedly — is revolutionizing the scale of U.S. assistance to humanitarian UXO action in Laos” is what the guy from State Department’s Removal and Abatement said.
I am very proud of our tiny but effective non-profit!

Warmest wishes for the new year of the dragon.

Hi Cindy,
Good for you for doing this and best wishes with your venture. I hope your Lao dinner will be a big success.
And for all of you, my news is that I’ll be taking 14 students to Vietnam for two weeks, 21 March-5 April. We’ll be exploring from north to south and should have quite an adventure. These are all 12-15 year olds from the Dhahran British Grammar School in Saudi Arabia.
