PETE CHESTON AND HIS WIFE’S FUNERAL

Submitted by Frank Stoddard (ACS)

I received this email from Pete’s brother Mike.

Good afternoon friends and family of Pete and Key.

I just received another confirmation from Key’s Daughter, Missy, who has been working tirelessly, hand-in-hand with her Aunt Caroline (Key’s Estate Personal Representative) to confirm a date for a small graveside service. As always, I am supporting whatever arrangements Key’s daughters have made and this is the date. For those needing to make travel plans, I have been assured you can do so with confidence.

The service is scheduled for 1000, April 8 at Trinity Episcopal Church located at 14515 Church Street, Upper Marlboro, MD 20773. The Reverend Martha Bonwitt will be presiding. I will be updating you on plans for a brief reception/family gathering afterwards on Andrews AFB, minutes away from the church, to which you are all invited. It will be nice to see family after so much time.

If you can let me know if you can make it, I’d appreciate it. It goes without saying that the family needs and cherishes your prayers. So until I see you all, I’ll borrow from 2 Thessalonians 3:16

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.”

Love from here…
Mike

I am posting an update about Pete and his wife’s service (Pete’s brother Mike did this update). I, unfortunately, will not be able to make it. Perhaps those of you that knew Pete and live closer can attend.
Not totally off topic, but I think “age” snuck up on me as it has done others. I had a friend named Frank…from my Tehran Days. I decided to call him last week to tell him that I plan on seeing another Iran day’s friend Shelley in St. Thomas on 6th of March. Frank’s wife answered the phone. Frank had died. I had always though that he and I would get together and talk and talk and drink and drink. I know that Rich H. is working very hard to put on a reunion in Maine in 2017. Suzy and I plan to go. Pete died this last year. Frank died this last year. I believe that 8 Saigon Kids have died in the last 15 years that I am aware of. Roy and I put on the last Hurrah! Perhaps, because we are Saigon kids, we can make that happen a few more times.
    Pete’s Brother’s email…
We are moving forward with preparing Pete and Key’s burial and provide them the honor they deserve. With some of you coming from out of town, I wanted to provide some recommendations for a hotel and fill you in on gatherings we are planning.

There really are no reliable hotels very close to the church; I’d recommend the Hampton Inn & Suites in Alexandria, VA – probably 20 minutes away from the church. Laurie and I have reserved 4 rooms to start off with and you are welcome to grab a confirmation # as needed (see below). Its also not too far from our home. We were not sure how many would be staying so the 4 rooms is a start. Let me know if I can be of any help locally, or if you call and we’ve run through the confirmation #s.

    Hampton Inn & Suites

    5821 Richmond Highway

    Alexandria, VA 22303

    703-329-1400

    Rooms reserved April 7 – April 9

    Confirmation #81426218 (Michael Cheston) – 1 Room

    Confirmation #85875850 (Laura Wesely) – 2 Rooms

    Confirmation #86405738 (Michael Cheston) – 1 Room

For those flying in, I’d recommend Washington National (DCA) as the closest to the hotel and reasonable distance from the church.

We are in touch with Andrews AFB to arrange for a small, informal gathering after the graveside ceremony for lunch and drinks – and family time.

As more develops I’ll keep you informed. Again, please don’t hesitate to call on me if you have any questions or needs.

    Lots of love,

    Mike
