Rock Around the Clock – 1950′s Music

I was in San Diego recovering from Polilo when this song hit the charts. It was one of the first, if not the first, rock n roll song at the start of the rock n roll era that would change music forever.

What is the first rock n roll song you remember hearing?

Gosh! What is the first ‘rock’n roll song I heard. That’s a hard one. Perhaps it was Bill Haley’s “Rock Around the Clock” or maybe it was “Green Door” (Jim Lowe). That song really caught my ear. I’m still an old ‘rock n roll’ sort of guy. My wife and I play it all the time.
About a week and a half ago, while on a bus traveling near Heathrow Airport, the song “C’mon Everybody” played on the bus’s radio. I told our English tour guide, she was 29 years old, that the singer of the song (Eddie Cochran) had died in a taxi cab near here in 1960. (Gene Vincent was seriously hurt in same wreck).
I’m a history nut also! Drives my kids and wife crazy! HA! Maybe that’s why were all so compatible!
Well Anyways! I was reading the blog where Sondra mentioned the Alhambra Theater. It never fails that when I hear Eddie Cochran’s song “Sittin’ in the Balcony” that I don’t think of all the kids back then…Sondra, Mike, Larry, Arlene, Cheryl, Buzz, Bob, Penny, VICKI, etc..
There is so many songs that I constantly relate to so many different times and people, especially to those back in the old Saigon Days .
“Oh and that’s when I woke up, and I’m sorry I did, for I dreamed I….”lol

P.S. Bob, I never knew you had Polio. Oh, besides Bo Diddley, I also remember you when I hear “Kansas City”. Larry is “Rebel-’Rouser”. Gosh, I think I have one for everyone. Oh MiMi, I have several! lol

“Oh and that’s when I woke up, and I’m sorry I did, for I dreamed I….” … I was in Hillbilly Heaven … lol

Yep, Frank I had polio. Got it when dad was stationed at Barstow, CA with the USMC … then spent 6 months in the hospital in San Diego, CA … then was told by the head doctor that within in another 6 months “you’ll never walk again” … my reply to him was … “I’M GONNA WALK!!! … YOU CAN’T STOP ME!!!” … LOL … he was a bit shocked at my response .. lol .. anyway, I then spend the next 2 years or so, as a out patient getting physical therapy treatments at 6:00 a.m. every morning .. and getting picked on by the kids a school .. lol … by the way, way back then .. what they called physical therapy treatments was more like what one would invision being tortured in a Medival Dungeon on the RACK … lol … but, it worked and I was finally able to walk again with no serious after effects .. etc .. Then once I was recovered … The school bully and his side kick GOT THERE’s for all the times they picked on me while I was unable to defend myself … lol … I got the ‘side kick’ on a Sunday during a street football game … then Monday at school his buddy the school Bully came after … He didn’t know what hit him after I kicked the S**T out of him … lol … those 2 never messed with me after that … lol … funny how 2+ years of built up ‘revenge anger’ gives one super human strength … lol

Frank … songs for MiMi … lol … that one about a ‘yellow poka dot bikini’ comes to mind … lol …

Frank what does .. “A white sport coat and a pink carnation” remind you of …. :)

Laterssss MAN .. I’m in my Cadallic with the top rolled down … motavating over the hill … look’n for Lawdy Miss Clawdy .. yeah, I been search’n every night and day … I gonna find her … Be-Bop-A-Lula there’s a Whole Lot of Shakin’ Going On Blueberry Hill … Great Balls Of Fire … Peggy Sue… You’re So Fine …LOL ha ha ha hahahaa
