Saigon Kid Memories: Eating Garlic Steak at Sing-Sing

by Ken Yeager (ACS)

Does anyone remember the little garage restaurant down the street from the PX/Commissary on Phan Dinh Phung called the Sing-Sing?

My dad, as a sergeant, was not invited to too many official functions but was occasionally.

Dad would give me a bit of money to take my little sister Debbie out for dinner at the Sing-Sing where we would eat garlic steak, fries and a coke and perhaps some wonderful French onion soup.

Many of the American staff at the PX and commissary would eat lunch there so there was always a supply of ketchup and mustard available (private stock, of course).

I think the place could only handle about 8 people at a time.

Good was good though.

Please excuse my stupid spelling and grammar errors.

Hey Ken, did you just have a snack attack?

I remember Sing Sings. They had the best soup cignon (sp). It was a very comfortable place the eat.

When my mother worked in the catelogue department at the BX, she ate there regularly.

My brother Michael also loved the garlic steak served with pomme de terre.

    Good memories.
