Saigon Kids™ Kate Needs Your Help

by Admin

I’m writing a biography of librarian Ruth Rappaport, who came to Saigon to start a library system for the military in 1963.

The library was initially under the Navy’s Headquarters Support Activity Saigon and open to all members of the military and their dependents.

If anyone remembers using the library or Ruth Rappaport specifically, please contact me:

Kate Stewart: kathrynvstewart at gmail.com.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Kate: I was not familiar with the library you have mentioned. However, I was in Saigon from 1965 to 1967 while stationed at the 3rd Field Hospital, formerly the American Community School near TSN airport,. the school had a nice library located in the school HQ which became the hospital HQ. There were still some books left behind when the school was shut down in early 1965. The Army took over right away and opened the hospital in April of that year. I have no idea what became of the school’s library books, but I did correspond briefly with the last principal later on. He has since passed away as has his wife. Darryl Henley
