SAIGON KIDS™ MARINE CORPS DAYS IN VIET NAM

Submitted by Frank Stoddard (ACS)

During my time in the Marine Corps I took a Russian History Class by correspondence course, something like what we did it ACS.

I also did a few drawings. I worked long and tiring hours in the USMC and ever since that duty I realize how important just having a drink of water is.

I drew a few pictures of which I thought were long gone and thrown into the garbage.

This week my son found them out in our garage.

It is strange that my Saigon days were so great and happy, yet I spent over 20 mouths in Vietnam with the Marine Corps, longer then I did as a Saigon Kid.

I guess as we get older, all you out their are aging, but I always feel like I’m sixteen when I think and talk to you.

frank, these drawings are beyond wonderful! i am so glad they’ve been found. what a treasure to have to remember the less-than-ideal times you had back in VN. all part of the whole picture of life. fortunately for the saigon kids, there were also lots of life-enhancing memories.
many good wishes to you and yours,
    brooks

Thanks Brooks, that means a lot to me coming from you. Please, anyone that wants to do anything with them, please do. I would like to give them to a museum that has art done by Veitnam military folks. Any suggestions? By the way, the drawing of the elderly women. I have not been able to figure out the name… “Refugee” or “Betel Juice”! Yea, when my son brought them to me, and as I looked at them, memories flashed before me(flash backs..hehe). I did a little art in the 1970’s-80’s while in Germany and when my kids were sitting next to me as they drew pictures also. Of late, my art is in me building our house. I am on the last phase, the kitchen Island. I hope to be complete by 1 August. Our house is rather artcie and is cool! Then I am also restoring four Mercedes 560 SL p’s and one 1954 Chevy pickup. That is my art today. Well, I think my family is my biggest work of art. So looking forward to Maine..2017
