I don’t remember how we got home from school the day of the evacuation in February 1964.
I do remember my family was on the first plane out for some reason.
Christmas Eve 1964 when the Brinks blew up, my parents were hosting a few bachelor officers over for a Christmas Eve dinner.
I remember they were all late, because they had gone down to the military hospital to donate blood first.
I went by my middle name then: Elaine.
