Sandy Says – Meet Me In NYC …

Just wanted to give people a heads up if they are in the New York area: Hofstra University is holding a conference Thursday, Friday & Saturday April 14 – 16th entitled “Into the Sunlight:The Impact of War on the Social Body From the Vietnam Era to the Present.”

There are several of us Saigon Kids who will be part of the Saturday, April 16th 9:30-10:30 Panel entitled “Shadow and Light, Stories of American Children Who Lived in Saigon: 1955-65.”

Elvera Roussel, Les Arbuckle and myself will be on the panel and there will be excerpts from Elvera Roussel’s documentary film shown.

The keynote speaker is David Maraniss, Pulitzer Prize winning author of “They Marched Into Sunlight” about Vietnam. He’ll be talking on Thursday April 14th from 9:30-10:50.

For more information you can call 516.463.5669 or go to http://www.hofstra.edu/Community/culctr/culctr_events_Into_Sunlight.html

Hope to see some of you there.

Oh wow! I will be in NYC, but just for Friday to see my grandson, Austen Boone, perform in the Marymount Manhattan College Spring Musical, Sweet Charity. I wish we could stay longer and meet up with you on Sat, but it is not possible. Best regards and hopefully another time. Maile Doyle

So sorry we couldn’t meet up while you were in NY. The conference was excellent and met some interesting people. The university had put on a play based on the book and it was excellent. I looked you up in the Geiko and see that you were two years ahead of me in school. Let me know if you ever make it back to the area. Sandy
